Does Stress Cause Acne?
There is now a study to confirm what many of us already knew from personal experience. Stress causes acne, wow, what a revelation! Sorry, it may have been a bit much on the sarcasm, but you get the point. Do we really need studies to confirm the basic facts that we already know. This is not exactly the scientific theory such as gravity or otherwise. It is a simple fact that we all realize because almost all of us have already gone through it, experiencing acne breakouts right before big stressful events and all. And of course, we know hormones have something to do with it.
But apparently scientists in Singapore felt the need to test this out. They used 54 females and 43 male secondary school students with mild to moderate acne problems. They looked at the first phase which they put them under high stress conditions for, and then they put them under low stress conditions such as a summer holiday. Each participant filled out a questionnaire and their stress was assessed using a stress scale. Needless to say, they showed results suggesting acne lesions rose in levels when they were under higher stress levels. They also did a similar study at Stanford University showing that acne symptoms worsened around the time of tests.
